Abstract
This research aims to identify research fronts and conduct a scientometric analysis of articles focused on Shiism. A total of 637 articles indexed in the Web of Science database from 1975 to 2023 make up the statistical population of the present study. The research method is applied, descriptive-analytical, and follows a scientometric approach, which, using co-occurrence analysis of keywords, maps the scientific landscape of Shiism-focused articles. To analyze the data and create a scientific map and cluster the subjects of Shiism-focused articles, the scientometric software VOSviewer was used. The findings indicate a growing trend in article publications in this field. The analysis of thematic clusters shows that "Shiism and Islam" are hot topics, "war and sectarianism" represent neglected areas for future research, and "terrorism and gender" are emerging themes. In terms of scientific collaboration, the United States ranks first with 136 articles, and Iran ranks second with 69 works. The scientific collaboration network was identified in six international clusters, including cooperation between Iran and France, South Korea, and Turkey. Shiism-focused articles in Iran are mostly published in Persian and in domestic journals. Therefore, language barriers and the limited indexing of domestic journals in international databases have led to a reduced presence of Iran's scientific output on the global stage. Consequently, this quantitative gap is more indicative of differences in research strategies and international publishing infrastructure than of scientific underperformance.
